LEAP (Liberal Education for Arts Professionals) is an internationally recognized Bachelor of Arts degree programme that is specifically designed for current and former professional dancers. With classes offered in San Francisco, Los Angeles, and New York City, LEAP serves more than 350 dancers from leading ballet, modern and ethnic dance companies as well as musical theatre, television, and film.

Six LEAP students - all highly experienced teachers and professional dancers - have been selected to travel to South Africa to work with young dancers in the township of Gugulethu. In partnership with Dance for All, these LEAP students will design and produce an on-site dance intensive that includes movement classes as well as repertory and choreographic workshops.

Kristine Elliott and Claire Sheridan are two St Mary’s faculty members who will be coordinating the programme here. The six teachers are Garen Scribner, Lucy van Cleef, Olivia Ramsay, David Tamaki, Annie Colbeck and Alejandro Piris Nino.

Dance Teachers are invited to register to come and watch these classes, which will run from 25 June to 17 July 2011. The cost is R100, to be used for Dance for All’s Outreach Programme.
