The Fugard Theatre is celebrating the arrival of summer with a varied line-up scheduled for November and December 2011.

The popular London Road, starring Fleur du Cap Award-winning actresses Robyn Scott and Ntombi Makhutshi, returns to the Fugard Theatre Studio Stage from 22 November to 17 December. This award winning production won a Gold Standard Bank Ovation Award at the National Arts Festival in 2010 and was the best voted show at the Festival for 2010 and 2011. The show has garnered three Fleur du Cap awards (Best Performance by an actress for Robyn Scott, Best Supporting Actress for Ntombi Makhutshi and Best New SA Script for Nicholas Spagnoletti, making it the most nominated production this year). It was also nominated for two Kanna awards – Best Director for Lara Bye and Best Female Artist for Robyn Scott.

As part of the World Opera and Ballet Season being screened at the Fugard Theatre, the Royal Opera, Tosca will be screened on 26 and 27 November. The Bolshoi Ballet’s Giselle will also be screened at the Fugard Theatre Bioscope on 10 and 11 December and the Bolshoi Ballet’s Swan Lake will be screened at the Fugard Theatre Bioscope on 17 and 18 December.

On 11 December Quattro Fusion play at the Fugard Studio sponsored by Standard Bank. Melanie Scholtz, and Samson Diamond, Standard Bank Young Artist Award winners (2010) head up this group with Melvin Peters, Hein van der Geyn and Godfrey Mgcina. Bokani Dyer (winner of Standard Bank Young Artist Award for jazz 2011) will open the evening with his band.

The Fugard Fest of Comedy will brighten up anyone’s holiday plans. Sensational Funny Man Alan Committie heads up and hosts a star-studded comedy line-up as the Fugard Theatre proudly presents its very first FUGARD FEST OF COMEDY!

Join Alan, Rob van Vuuren, Carmen Davis and Jo Galloway and as they frolic on the Fugard Theatre Stage in this deliciously hilarious comedy revue romp which is just what you need at the end of a long year!

To add to the festive fun - every night a top local comedian will join Alan and the team as they reflect on 2011 and look into 2012 ….

The first week, 29 November to 3 December, will see guest comedian Mark Banks up to his usual uncontrollable madcap antics, while super star Riaad Moosa joins the gang for the 6th, 7th and 10th of December. During the final week, 12 to 17 December, the team will be joined on stage by local comedian Stuart Taylor who brings his charming and intelligent humour to add to the fun of this festive show at the beautiful Fugard Theatre in District 6!
